Overview  Applications	Applications of CA Technology We see four major areas where this technology can be applied. They are characterization, ordering, categorization, and document search/retrieval. Characterization This application examines the text profile to determine the themes present and their relative level. For example, you can ascertain if there is pornographic or terrorist element present in a given text. Characterization is useful in dynamically filtering individual texts, such as email or chat conversations. Ordering Suppose a group of texts or documents are profiled, and one of those is of particular interest to you. Using the similarity function of our technology, you can put all the documents in order of their thematic proximity to the particular document of interest. For example, if the “text of interest” is a search query, then the set of search results could be dynamically reordered so that the better results are moved closer to the top of the list. Most importantly, the results are based on similarity of theme, not just on presence of keywords. Categorization Textual documents can be predefined which are typical and representative of the various categories of subject matter. CA then processes these documents to produce a database of textual profiles that correlate to the categories. This is the application of our technology that our FastTracker product uses. When new text needs to be categorized, CA processes it to produce a profile, which is then compared to the database of category profiles. The closest match represents the primary category of the new text. Document Search and Retrieval An entire database of documents can be profiled in advance, which allows our technology to be applied as a search engine. CA can process and profile a textual search query, and then search and retrieve the documents with profiles most closely matching that of the query. The profile of any document in the database could also serve as a query to fetch documents that are similar to it, in effect providing a built-in “more like this” facility.
